Top 5 Smart Home Products

Top 5 Smart Home Products

Nest Thermostat

The Nest Thermostat acts just like a regular thermostat, but it allows you to access your thermostat from a phone or echo/google home. The thermostat has a regular nest and the Nest Thermostat E which is cheaper. It has the technology to learn patterns of temperature change to adapt to it. This also can save you money on your Heat and AC bill. SO it literally pays for itself.

Phillips Hue Bulbs

The Phillips Hue bulbs allow you to use your lights with a phone, Echo, or Google Home. All they are are bulbs that connect to a hub. And yes, you will need to buy the hub which retails for $60 on Amazon. But I recommend getting the starter kit which costs $70 and includes 2 bulbs. They have White lights and color lights. They also make lights for different sockets. There is one product they have that I do not recommend which is the light strip. It's too expensive and not worth it. The lights are a bit expensive so I recommend slowly moving into smart lights.

Ring Video Doorbell

The Ring doorbell products available at the time of this article is Ring doorbell 1, 2, pro and elite. I personally recommend the 2 or pro. The pro requires hardwiring so remember that before buying. All of the doorbells can be hardwired but the elite requires PoE (power over ethernet) which means you need to drill some holes in your wall to get ethernet in the wall. The Ring can let you feel you are at home with 2-way talk between you and the doorbell ringer. You can check live view to see what's going on outside. You can get alerted for motion if there is any suspicious activity.

Nest Camera

The nest camera has indoor and outdoor options and allows you to see what's going on wherever you decide to put it. The IQ version can see faces and can notify you if someone is near your camera. The cameras all show up on the nest app in a nice list making it very easy to see what is going on for every camera. The one problem I have with the camera and most other nest products is are they are VERY expensive. So, if you're on a serious budget. I highly recommend the Wyze camera. The Wyze cannot detect faces like the IQ. It's more or less a regular camera.

Amazon Echo

The Alexa line of products brings together your smart home. You can control all of the smart home devices listed with the device. And the camera devices can be viewed through the Echo Show and Echo Spot. The price ranges greatly between devices which means there is a device for everyone. I have one for every two rooms. It is a great device to use. It can answer questions, set timers and alarms, play music and video, and much more. You can download skills for the devices adding even more features. The echo plus can be used as a hub so you don't need to buy a hub for each brand of product which, if you go all out on smart home, can be very cost-effective
